Artwork honouring souls lost at sea and supporting MOAS.
Campaign Details
‘Soul Vessels’ is an installation of smoke-fired ceramic boats created in the Outer Hebrides. It was inspired by the beautiful locally built wooden boats and the mythical significance, in many cultures, of the boat as a carrier of the souls of the dead. It commemorated personal losses, as well as honouring souls lost at sea in their search for a new home, linking the current migration crisis with people having had to leave the Hebrides in the past. Exhibited at a Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre this summer, with the aim of donating 25% of sales to MOAS. It was extremely well received by locals and visitors alike – moving several to tears – and raised over £500. I hope others will join me in supporting MOAS because ‘no one deserves to die at sea’.
